All on the web is still talking about Google Plus, Google’s new social media initiative after Buzz and a better (probably) answer to Facebook. The more it is hitting people’s PC and laptop, the more assessment is striking everywhere.
Last time I wrote about Google+ review and this time the content deals with more curious issue of it – the pros and cons of Google+.
After a survey of several Google+ users we have come across some good and some bad of this infant social media.
Pro: Gorgeous UI
Many of the Google+ users said the user interface is sleek and clean. They said G+ is easy-to-use and also less cluttered. Thanks to Andy Hertzfeld, the original designer of Apple Macintosh GUI, who designed Google+ UI.
Here are what exactly few Google+ users said about the UI:
“Excellent UI that is simply but powerful.”
“This is a shiny awesome toy with a kickass UI and amazing bonus features like Sparks and Huddle.”
My Words:
The Google+ UI is of course better than other products of the search engine giant. G+ is easy to understand and very clean.
Con: Noise in the Stream
Though it has been designed to minimize noise in the stream, but still it can be felt by most users. One main reason is the pushing up of the posts to the top whenever there is a new comment to it. This is not required, according to most users.
Below are what exactly few users said:
“Timeline needs to be customizable especially when following high-profile people.”
“There should be choices on how to view a stream feed.”
My words:
The second sentence says good point. Google should stop bumping the posts. The customization should be like this > newest post, newest comment, censored by G+ etc. A proper way has to be developed to see the top stories.
Pro: Circles is Slick
People have said that Google+ has the easiest system for putting friends into groups. This has further made posts sharing easier with friends, relatives, family or business colleagues.
Here are what Google+ users said:
“Circles are huge. They solve the reason I don’t use Facebook.”
“Selective content pushing and intake with groups is awesome.”
My words:
The Circles of Google+ is well designed. It is even much superior than Twitter lists or Facebook friends lists.
Con: Not compatible with Google Apps
It has been learned from the feedback that people wants G+ on their Google Apps accounts, which is not available right now.
My words:
This has to be taken as top priority by Google at this stage.
Pro: Google Plus Hangouts
The Hangout feature is above all the other features of Google+. It allows maximum of ten people to have video chat simultaneously. In the beta form this feature has been a great hit.
My words:
I can say that this is a killer feature of Google+.
Con: No Search
No need to say that Google is best defined as the one which is into search. So, it is very strange as to why Google did not include the search engine in it for finding content that are being shared. Let’s see what few of the people wrote:
“Leaves a little to be desired when filling out profile information, would be nice to see cohesive search tools.”
“Searching for people opens in a new tab and not on the same page of the stream.”
Pro (even con): G+ is Everywhere
Google Plus is now on every products of Google. May be in future we would not be surprised to see it on YouTube also.
My words:
From this extension of Google it seems that Google intends to be social.
